Winnie Cooper

The 67-mile route we like to call the Winnie Cooper follows the same course as the 40, but after climbing Crazy Corners (MM 27), you take a left down Pleasant Valley Road (MMR). There are 2 small sections of paved road before my favorite section of all the routes, Winnebago Valley. Mesmerizing rock formations line the roads before opening up into an amazingly wide valley speckled with beautiful barns. While riding this section I don’t know why but I thought of The Wonder Years, and of course Winnie Cooper so there you have it. Before you know it, you will be back to Freeburg, and another rest stop, it will be great fuel before you climb Crazy Corners again! The final home stretch is really pretty with some cool barns along the way. Some punchy rollers will surprise you a few times before the final paved descent before the finish line. Now you can shake out those sore legs, eat, drink, and be merry!

General Rules

Nobody likes them, but they are a necessity for the survival of any ride. This ride is ON OPEN ROADS, which means you must OBEY TRAFFIC LAWS. Please keep in mind some farmers and residents work and live on these roads. Yield to cars and farm equipment, and please stop at all stop signs, you will be crossing some highways. The less we inconvenience residents, the more likely they are to welcome us into their community. It is simple, be courteous, wave, and smile, you are on a bike ride!

Be prepared for anything, this is not a supported ride. There will be rest stops with food and water on the route (the 18-mile route does not have a rest stop). There will not be any mechanical support on the road, you are responsible for arranging a ride if you have issues. Having some sort of tire plug, inner tube, and Co2 is a really good idea. It is a good idea to bring some warm clothes, as the weather can change quickly (maybe a rain jacket lol).

Leave no trace. Please put your trash in your pocket and place it in the proper receptacle at a rest stop or the finish. Please do not litter. Also, there will be restrooms at most rest stops. Please do not use the bathroom on the course, especially not on private property.

All riders must wear a helmet.

Ride your bike, have fun, and be kind to others. The perfect formula.
